2013 Council for Economic Education

The DRSS Economics Podcast Project is a compilation of podcasts created by my 11th Grade Economics Class as they study the local economy. The podcasts represent student research of local stories (in the Dayton area) in which macro and microeconomic topics converge in the real world. I presented on this bi-annual unit at the 2013 Annual Council for Economic Education Conference in Baltimore. For teachers interested in doing a similar project, below are some helpful links to get you started. All can be found on my academia.edu page, but this page allows me to explain each link.

You can find us on iTunes here if you would like to hear the students' work. Click on the picture on the left to go to our Facebook page, and/or if you're interested in helping us with this project as a potential interviewee, please sign up here!

This is a link to the student instructions/rubric that I give them at the beginning of each project. You can download as a Word doc and feel free to make it your own.

This is a link to the presentation I gave on how to do this project at the 2013 Council for Economic Education's Annual Conference, and should give you an idea of how to use this in your own classroom.

Here's a link to the podcast rubric.

Here are directions on how to submit your podcast to archive.org. You will have to make your own account for the student to use, but this is what I give the students so they know how to submit their podcast URL to me.

Here's a sample page I use to help find partners who might be interested in helping. Feel free to adapt these questions to your area and use this to find people students may be able to interview.
